Music Groups at LSE
Membership allows you to join any of these groups for free and allows you explore the rich and diverse range of music offered at LSE.
There are 4 groups that run every year!

Houghtones A Cappella
Close harmony couldn’t get any better with this mixed voice a cappella group.

LSE Orchestra
The LSE Orchestra is open to all students, staff and alumni. This is run by an external director of music. By audition only.



RogueNotes A Cappella
An alternative, recently founded mixed a cappella group, offering different styles and content to the Houghtones, while often performing together at concerts and ensembles.

LSE Choir
The LSE Choir is open to all students, staff and alumni. The choir takes part in the Christmas Concert at St. Clement Danes Church.
We host new groups every year too – see below for a selection of ones we’ve had in the past!



String Ensemble
Semi-Professional String Ensemble is by audition only and plays chamber music.



Asian Music Circle
Explore South Asian and East Asian music like never before. Brand new to LSE, it celebrates diversity and cultural talent.



Jazz Band
The best fun to be had is with the Jazz Band! Perform at gigs and jam at improv. sessions.



Chamber Choir
The Chamber Choir is a small group of singers that perform a wide genre of music.
Concerts at LSE
A number of different performance opportunities are available with the music society. Make sure you are a member to be fully eligible to sign up and perform or get discounted tickets.



Lunchtime Recitals
New to this year, these recitals create an informal space where anyone can come and enjoy great music of all levels and genres. Every two weeks, non-ticketed, 6th Floor SU.



Jazz Concerts
Join the Jazz Band to play in this concert or register as a small group/band to perform at this event. Typically one of the busiest concerts! Once a term, ticketed, The Venue.



Oxford Choir Evensong
Open to all students at LSE, the Evensong concert at Oxford is not to be missed. Evensong is one of the oldest British traditions in choral music making! Lent Term.



Chamber Music Concerts
Formal evening concert in the Shaw Library that is a showcase of the most talented and aspiring soloists and groups. Twice a term, ticketed, Shaw Library.



Improv. Night + Band Night
Join our informal jam sessions or watch the Battle of the Bands as the schools leading groups compete.



LSE SUperstar
The success of SUperstar last year delights us in bringing it back once again! Judged by external guest judges, this competition is not only great fun but has a cash prize. Lent Term.



Open Mic. Nights
Bands, groups, guitarists and soloists are all welcome to perform in the relaxed environment of The Tuns in the Saw Swee Hock. Twice a term, non-ticketed, The Tuns.



Asian Music Concert
A celebration of diversity and cultural talent at LSE, the Asian Music Concert is for those who are part of the Asian Music Circle network and love their traditional music styles. Lent Term.



LSE Chill
An intimate showcase of artistic talent throughout LSE. LSE Chill welcomes staff and students to an evening of relaxation hosted by LSE Arts at Café 54, NAB.
